NEWS: Emilia Golanska Appointed as Managing Attorney

PLA is proud to announce that Supervising Attorney Emilia Golanska has been appointed as PLA's Managing Attorney. Emilia joins Maureen Olives, current Managing Attorney, in leading the provision of strategic legal services at PLA. Emilia will lead the Family Law Unit, General Intake Unit, and the Low Income Tax Clinic.

Emilia started at PLA in 2004 as an Equal Justice Works Fellow representing Eastern European immigrant victims of family violence in protection from abuse, child custody, child support and divorce matters at PLA. Following her fellowship, she worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia County before returning to PLA's Family Law Unit

For the past 15 years, Emilia specialized in the representation of victims of family violence and sexual assault and has conducted numerous trainings, in domestic violence, protection from abuse, custody, and support, of social workers, new attorneys, and law student interns. In her role at PLA, she supervised the Custody and Support Assistance Clinic (CASAC), a Penn Law School student-run non-profit clinic for the past 8 years. This clinic provides pro se assistance to family law litigants. In the past, she has supervised the Domestic Violence Assistance Project (DVAP), which trained volunteer law students to provide information regarding the process and procedure for obtaining relief in Protection From Abuse (PFA) matters to pro se litigants in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County Family Court Domestic Relations Division.

She has taught continuing legal education courses in protection from abuse, custody, diversity/cultural sensitivity and immigrant language access issues.

Emilia regularly serves as an arbitrator in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County. She is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association and an active member of the Diversity Committee of the PBA. Emilia is bilingual in the English and Polish languages.
