Calling one of our Hotlines is the fastest way to speak with a PLA advocate about your legal issue.
**Our General Intake Hotline will be closed beginning Monday, August 17 and will reopen Monday, August 24. We encourage you to complete an online application during this period so that we may contact you.
Our Family Law Hotline and Custody Help Center located in Philadelphia Family Court will be closed Monday, August 17, through Friday, August 28. The Custody Help Center will reopen Monday, August 31st, and the hotline will return to normal hours on Tuesday, September 1.
Unemployment compensation (UC) intake will be closed beginning Monday, August 10 and will reopen hotline intake on Monday, August 24. In the meantime, you may complete an online application at philalegal.org/apply. We will contact you regarding your online application during the week of August 24th.
If you have an unemployment compensation claim and have been recently assigned a hearing date scheduled on or before August 28th, you will need to get a continuance if you are seeking representation from PLA. You should send a continuance request in writing to the Referee's office. Also, please complete an online intake at philalegal.org/apply. Our intake staff will contact you on or after August 24th.
If you receive an unfavorable decision, you will need to file an appeal by the deadline listed on your decision. Please follow the instructions at uchelp.org/unemployment-compensation/appeal/. Our regular UC intake hours will resume on Monday, August 24th. UC intake is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30am through 12noon and can be reached at 215-981-3800.**
For help with home mortgages, sheriff sales, or tangled titles call the Save Your Home Philly Hotline at 215-334-HOME (4663) between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Outside of these hours, callers can leave a message and get a call back from a PLA advocate.
For help with child custody, leaving an abusive home, or another family issue, call the Family Law Hotline at 215-981-3838. The hotline currently operates between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
For help with unemployment compensation, tax issues, or any legal other issue, call the General Intake Hotline at 215-981-3800 between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
If your legal problem is SSI, you need to apply to Community Legal Services (CLS) for assistance. Your case may be referred from CLS to PLA. For the intake hours at CLS, see the SSI page of CLS's web site.
