Tax Season is Here! Small Business Owners in Philadelphia Can Get Their Taxes Done For Free!
If you have a small business that is located in Philadelphia, or if you work for yourself out of your home, the City of Philadelphia is offering to match you up with a qualified tax preparer who will be able to do your city, state, and federal tax returns for free!
There is limited funding and limited accountants available, so don’t delay, apply now! The program isn’t open to landlords and property rental businesses, and you have to be making less than $250,000 per year.
But, other than that, anyone who reports their income on a Schedule C when doing their federal taxes (and this could include many gig and platform workers) and lives in Philadelphia could be eligible! If you don’t have a business name, just put down your own name.
There is more information, including a list of the participating tax preparers, at this webpage: https://www.phila.gov/2026-01-15-the-parker-administration-launched-the-philadelphia-free-business-tax-preparation-program/ That webpage also will take you to this link to apply for the free assistance https://businesstaxprep.fshtechnologies.org/intake/free-tax-prep
There are other places that do taxes for free (like VITA and AARP sites), but they may not all have expertise in business tax issues, and they also usually don’t do Philadelphia tax returns, just the federal and state returns.
So don’t wait, if you have a small business and you want to make sure your tax obligations are being handled correctly, sign up with this City program to get connected with a tax preparer who will help you for free!
If you don’t have your own business and your employer is paying you in cash or giving you a 1099 instead of a W-2, you may have been misclassified and may be paying more tax than your fair share. If that is the case, contact us to see if we can help! Call 215-981-3800 Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or apply online https://philalegal.org/apply
