Philadelphia Small Business Owners: Get Free Tax Preparation for Next Year

If you have a small business that is located in Philadelphia, or if you work for yourself out of your home, the City of Philadelphia is offering to match you up with a qualified accountant who will be able to do your city, state, and federal tax returns for free!
Due to limited funding and available accountants, the City invites people to sign up now for the waiting list to be matched with an accountant. There will be accountants who speak Spanish and Mandarin, and other languages, too.
You can sign up here: https://www.phila.gov/2025-07-09-coming-soon-free-business-tax-assistance-program/
The program isn’t open to landlords and property rental businesses, and you have to be making less than $250,000 per year.
If you meet those requirements, anyone who reports their income on a Schedule C when doing their federal taxes (and this could include many gig and platform workers) and lives in Philadelphia could be eligible. If you don’t have a business name, just put down your own name.
There are other places that do taxes for free (like VITA and AARP sites), but they are not typically accountants with expertise in business tax issues, and they also usually don’t do Philadelphia tax returns, just the federal and state returns.
So don’t wait, if you have a small business and you want to make sure your tax obligations are being handled correctly, sign up with this City program to get connected with an accountant who will help you for free!
BUT, if you don’t have your own business and your employer is paying you in cash or giving you a 1099 instead of a W-2, you may have been misclassified and may be paying more tax than your fair share. If that is the case, contact us to see if we can help! Call our intake at 215-981-3800 between 9:30am and 12pm Monday through Thursday or apply online at philalegal.org.
